Child Evangelism
Fellowship®, also known as CEF®, is a Bible-centered, worldwide organization
composed of born-again believers whose purpose is to evangelize boys and
girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, disciple them in the Word of
God, and establish them in the local church. CEF has over 1,200 missionaries
overseas, approximately 1,000 of whom are nationals. In the USA and Canada
700 full-time workers and an estimated 40,000 volunteers serve the ministry.
CEF was founded by Jesse Irvin Overholtzer in 1937.
CEF of Myrtle Beach has been in existence for over seven
years and has different types of evangelistic/discipleship/training
programs, but there are two that are the most identified with CEF. Our first
program and most recognizable is Good News Club®. Good News Club® is a one
hour Bible club held in our public elementary schools. Some ask how it is
possible to read the Bible, pray, and teach the ten commandments on public
school grounds. The answer is that in 2001 the Supreme Court ruled in favor
in the case of CEF vs. Milford Central School that CEF had equal access to
the public elementary school after school programs.
Our schools are being targeted in ways that our country has
never seen. Anything related to Christianity and Jesus Christ is being
blotted out of our public school system. Our children, who are our future
politicians, our future doctors, lawyers, men and women of influence, but
also our future brothers and sisters in Christ are not being taught
biblical, or even moral, principles and in turn are being taught every type
of perversion as acceptable ways of life.
Through Good News Club® we are able to
reverse the trend and teach moral principles, respect for authority, and
character building. In Greater Pee Dee during the 2007-08 school year, 18
Good News Clubs® were held with 956 students in
attendance. Over 250 children prayed to receive Christ. Not only have they
become new Christians, but they return to club week after week and are
discipled in the word of God and taught how to have a daily quiet time and
begin to have a walk with God.
Volunteers are investing in these children and their
families, as well as investing in the lives of the teachers, principals, and
school staff, with the love of Jesus Christ. Lives are truly being changed.
God has blessed with such an amazing opportunity to change our culture. Good
News Clubs® have proven to improve race relations, establish moral
foundations, provide hope for the angry and lonely child, and most
importantly it offers the gift of salvation to a lost and dying world.
Another exciting CEF ministry is designed for the summer
months utilizing teenagers in the form of Christian Youth
In Action® (CYIA). In June, all across the United States hundreds of
young people are trained to conduct 5-Day Clubs. Throughout the summer they
have many opportunities to present the Gospel to boys and girls in
recreational centers, boys and girls clubs, YMCA’s, parks, homes, community
centers, and anywhere the doors are open. These teenagers are experiencing
the joy of leading others to the Lord and learning that it is not something
that they do for the summer but is part of who they are for the rest of
their lives.
CEF is a non-profit ministry that relies solely on the
support of God’s people. Our purpose is truly to change this world by
reaching the children. Please pray with us as God continues to move His
people to further His kingdom and glorify His name.
